UPDATE!!
Health Canada has announced that beginning March 7, 2024,
all strychnine products will be cancelled!
There will be a 6-month phase-out period and after September 7, 2024, strychnine will no longer be permitted (ie. banned!)
Today we celebrate!!!!
.... tomorrow we continue to tackle ending use of Compound 1080.
Thank you to all those who cared enough to howl about it.
Compound 1080 is a highly toxic poisons still registered in Canada to kill wolves and coyotes. It also kills unintended species.
Not only is Compound 1080 an inhumane killer, with symptoms being extremely painful and prolonged before death, but it is indiscriminate. Too many non-target birds and mammals (including pets) continue to be poisoned as "collateral damage".
There are things we can do to help ban the use of poisons in Canada. Your voices were heard loudly when the recent decision was made to discontinue the use strychnine to kill predators.
Here on wehowl.ca you'll find current information and ideas for amplifying our voices and making change. Together we can make more noise.

Ban 1080 Poison
In Canada, long-outdated policies continue to allow the use of a reckless and violent poison to kill wolves and coyotes.
Specifically, this is sodium fluouroacetate, also known as
Compound 1080. This poison is inhumane, with symptoms being extremely painful and prolonged before death.
Compound 1080 is an indiscriminate killer that has claimed many dogs in addition to non-target animals, including species at risk.
